Discussion of architectural details and stylistic analysis. Some students find the approach difficult. Clear, black and white illustrations, but many are too small to see details.


Alain Erlande-Brandenburg, The Cathedral Builders of the Middle Ages , from New Horizons (London: Thames and Hudson Ltd., 1995).

Attractive little book with small but interesting illustrations of good quality. Touches on a variety of topics concerning design, craftsmen and materials. Includes a collection of translated documents from the middle ages. Suitable for high school and first- and second-year college students.
